I wanna know why you people think they are emo?! They don't look emo, they don't sound emo, maybe they sound emo to the first listening, but if you called Jimmy Eat World emo in their face, they would probably beat the hell out of you, they consider themselves not emo. they are more soft rock than anything, and they have awesome melodies and awesome lyrics, listen to them dammit!!!!

I would, but then my ears would start to bleed from the lack of awesomeness. And their style does sound like it has quite a bit in common with early (80's) Emo, but with a much stronger Pop-Punk influence.

Only song I know that sounds like that is 'The Middle'.

Well, I don't much care for Emo or Pop-Punk so I'm not exactly the most reputable source on either.

Well I actually think that 'The Middle' and 'If You Don't, Don't' are kind of emo-isk, but I seriously don't see how others are emo, I mean, I've heard emo music, I know people who all they listen to is emo and I'm all "turn that crap off, i don't want to here about slitting wrists and people wanting to kill their friends", but JEW is nothing about 'slitting wrists' and 'killing friends', the song 'Pain' may have something to do with drugs, but that song is just too kick ass, check it out if you want, and if you should watch their music videos, they look the total opposite of emo, now check out how My Chemical Romance look.

and they arn't pop-punk other than 'The Middle', their music though is something you won't like the first listen, but after a few listens, they are "holy crap, how did i see this as bad?"

There's more to Emo than just slitting wrists and getting dumped too.

yea, but i think i said this before, their only album that kind of might be called 'emo' would be the one that everyone is familiar with, 'Bleed American', which was changed to 'Jimmy Eat World' because of the 9/11 thing that happened, but i got my rare copy of it still being called 'Bleed American' (=.
futures may have a darker side to it, but i really can't see emo in it at all, it's more ballads than anything, same with clarity.

I might be a little late on this, but Jimmy Eat World... wouldn't lay a finger on anyone. And yeah, they may as well be emo. Not only that, but they at least used to be lapped up like mainstream firewater -- never getting a rest on that Godforsaken device people call a radio. Talk about wearing something out. I'd gladly tell these sissies straight to their face that not only did they suck at music, but they wore some pretty homosexual clothing to boot. Sellouts.
