Okay I'm sorry but I have to rant once and awhile, I've been a bit overstressed lately and this subject been irking me lately:
Recently, with me looking at other sources, my own job in electronic at Wal-mart, and my recent experiences in a futile attempt at commuicating with a Brawl's competitive community on Smashboards as another extreme of the gaming world.
I don't know, it's as if all of the sudden glancing at the gaming community makes me feel more and more lost in the new generation of games. When we were all kids, the concept was pretty simple for most of us: If the game was fun, we liked it.
But recent when I observe the newest generation it feel like something else. All I see anymore is fanboyism, bitching over what's makes a good game and what doesn't, and a complete disgard for the feelings of anyone else.
Also I continue to notice and enormous amount of pressure to some people to not buy a game BECUASE THE MAJORITY says it's either kiddy, it sucks, or lack 'depth'. For example from the bargain rack at work, I picked up a game called Megaman StarForce Peagus. Now, I've been a fan of the Battle Network series since it started despise people dislike for it. I found I enjoyed it regardless of it's story simplisticies.
The response from someone at work was: "Why in the hell would you play shit like that?" and another " Go get a real game."
First of all my general question is: Why? Why in the hell do you care? And second simply because I find FPS montonious as hell does that give you the right to flaunt that what I like to play is somehow 'bad'? And what exactly defines a 'good' game?
Do you see me tell Halo players that your game 'sux dokney dix' or something idiotic like that? I don't understand this mentality at all. You know what I think, the GENERAL reason Halo is popular is it started off a decent FPS however, the pressure on top of Microsofts ridculious promotion method kind of instill a sense of MUST HAVE by playing on people reaction to things that 'look cool'.
But am I going to go to their forums or go to their games and say that they suck... that is ridculious, what in the hell does that accomplish or prove?
The console wars are just as ridculious... at NO POINT during the intial battle between Sega and Nintendo do I remember the pure idioticy involved, though this may merely do to a lack of community and internet, which lately is coming off as the true meaning of Human stupidity.
I've liternally had PS3 and X360 customers (Due to the fact that the Wii is the only Next Gen console I own, MOSTLY due to finainal expense) that I need to stop playing 'kiddie' games and get a REAL game system.
What... the... hell... What in the friggin hell is a REAL game system, do you need a virtual game to upscale your friggin Manhood? And the fact that people insist on making fun of me because I LIKE the Wii and the Nintendo DS over the god damn PSP, X360, and PS3.
I play games I LIKE I don't need to prove to idiots that because I don't play every god damn bloody gorey overrated FPS that comes into exist. God damnit what's so damn wrong about enjoying something? I'm beginning to wonder greatly if the term "game" has any prespective towards it's original meaning.
And this brings me to the biggest cause of my sudden outburst: Smashboards.com, the biggest competitive boards for the Smash Brother Franchaise that have done the biggest god damn U-turn I've seen in the history of friggin games.
For months you heard people going on how great Brawl was going to and the discussion of their community was for the most part very good compared to most message boards.
However, after Brawl was released it went down the crapper real quick. The competitives are all pissy over the fact that a majority of the games quirkies seem to be complete against their favor, mostly with the techinques from Melee, the speed of the game, and the lack of combo ability. They spent most of the times luging insults at the developers for 'weeding' out everything that made Melee a competitive franchiase... there like a friggin minority that whines when they don't get their way. Then on the other side you have the people, mostly idiots who just lunge insults back at the competitives. Who mindless waste time making more topic to complain about the competitve that are already complaining.
The worse part about that is there isn't just one topic on this, there is approixmately 10 topics each day that show up on this forum nothing is being done to improve the condition, no one is making any effort to solve the problem, and worse is a number of the MODS are just adding fuel to flame. It is the worse message board situation I have ever seen. What kind of friggin competitive people spent their time bitching abuot the damn changes if they don't like the damn game why are they even playing it? Isn't being Competitive mean you should be ADAPTABLE?
When did games turn into SUCH a important part of life, that there has to six hundred sites devoted to tell you what you should and shouldn't play, just like music, movies, and every other damn form of media in existance. Consider it an artform if you want but god damn, people need to let go of this so called 'hardcore' tendancy to turn a game into a friggin commotion.
When did games stop being fun and turn into a constant rant of fanboyism and barking. It makes me sick that something I enjoy so much is such a thing that draws the absolute worse types to make everyone else look bad.
... okay, feel better now... rant over...
