You may have noticed there is only one topic in here now. I did some cleaning. This is now the main help desk topic. Post a computer related question and hopefully I or someone else will help you with it. Enjoy.

So yeah, my computer fucked the hell up for a few hours >_>
I turned it on to go play some more offline PSU and it gives me some error saying a file was corrupted. So I look for my windows disk. ROFL. >_> It's nowhere to be found. Nathan got on aim and found Eric, he burned us a copy of his windows. Didn't work like it did on 98... probably bc XP is NT based and 98 was DOS based >_> Fuckers. Anyways... Nathan slaved my HDD and copied my files. I was all OMFG ty!!! Because I havent backed up in forever. So he copied them over and brought my pc back in the den to hook it up so he could try to do some more shit to it... and it just worked when he booted it back up. No errors or anything
Weird.

Why didn't you try reinstalling PSU from the get go? Or did you and you forgot to include that in your recap?

Mm, it was a windows error. Apparently one of my kernal files corrupted somehow. With 98, you could just put in the Windows disk and it'd find and reinstall the corrupted file... but that was dos based, and XP is NT based. Yay. /sarcasm.
It just suddenly worked again after Nathan took out my hdd, slvaed it to his and copied my files. It was so weird. The only thing that I can think happened... was that I had a corrupted boot sector on my HDD, and hooking it up as a slave drive somehow corrected or reinstalled the boot sector so I could boot again normally. I haven't had a problem since then

ok, heres the deal with my Compaq Evo:
It has window xp professionals(which I think sucks for home use)
Freezes up for no apparent reason(which i hate and force to shut down)
While tryin to watch a video on youtube, it just closes the browser automatically.
And i just finally got internet connection on it but the freezing part i hate the most.
Any ideas how I can remedy this?

Uhhh try running Hitman yet? Or Try Norton, then run Spybot & AdAware SE to make sure you dont have anything.

well, the comp was clean to begin with and just installed an anti virus and anti-spy program. However I did defragmented the c-drive and its not freezing at the moment(im using it now as i type). I hate having to deal with bugs and glitches.

You might be running into browser hijacks. Seraph gave you the best help though, a firewall however would be even better. That way you won't deal with any outside problems, meaning you can just trace your own messups and things will get sorted out easier.

OK, so I got system mechanic and some anti spyware stuff in it. It had 127 invalid items and other junk along with 70+ spyware. Now one would think "problem solved" but the freaking thing still freezes up for no damn reason. I gave up and took it to get it repaired at a comp shop. I dont have time for bs. Ill update soon...

Dude, CompUSA charges $100 for a flat-rate for a desktop and $149 for notebooks. But it covers virus removal and installation fees if it's a part messed up. But that's here. In different states, its more. I would've suggested getting things off the pc if you could and reformatting. Possibly a rollback.
