They said I had "excessive" tardies and abscences.
Back In feb, I got written up twice because I missed two days of work. I got a note from my pharmacy stating I called my RX's in early but they had a system problem and couldn't get my medication to me before Tuesday at the earliest. I take anti-depressants, you can't just not take them and expect to be fine. I was screaming and freaking out, so I called in for two days until I got my medication. She said that was no excuse. Crock of shit.
A few months ago the power went out. I reset all the clocks and went to work the next day. Apparently, I set them a little too slow compared to work, because I was something like 16 minutes late...and I live 8 minutes from work, figure THAT out. So written up there too.
Then last week my alarm didnt go off and I happened to wake up right when I was suppose to be there. I called them as soon as I got up and made it about an hour late.
So yep, I got fired. After the initial upset, I've been fine. I enjoy doing nothing all day. ^___^
On a slightly more pessimistic note, we just paid for our wedding and honeymoob stuff, minus a few decorations and the such. We've got plenty of money, but we weren't expecting like $800/month less. So I'm job hunting already. I wanted to wait a week or something so I can clean up the apartment but I guess I can't really.

It was for absenses... I was tardy last week due to my internship dragging out which resulting in my third tardy which my last one was back in May sometime. But they count it anyway. It's the last step before they'll fire. But it's a really stupid process. They send me home and still paid me for the entire shift and then I come back and give them a statement which pretty much is along the lines of " I won't do it again." It's the equailant of a parent telling a child to go to their room and think about what they did.

ROFL
so.....if you REALLY didn't care about your job and you REALLY didn't want to go to work one day...you could be tardy and have them slap you on the wrist and send you home?

Basically Wal-Mart's system runs like follows:
3 tardies/ leave early's constitute one absence
2 absences nets you a verbal warning (basically they pull you bak to the office just to tell you that you have two absences and the next will get a verbal coaching)
third absence nets a verbal coaching
fourth absence nets a written coaching
fifth absence nets a d-day, which is as hiku described
a sixth absence will pretty much see your ass out the door, assuming they didn't drop you at the d-day
Now of course if you have any coachings from anything else the aforementioned coachings roll over to the next level (i.e. verbal becomes written, written becomes a d-day). Absences (and I think tardies/leave early's) fall off every 6 months I think, and coachings follow the same pattern (I think, feel free to clarify for me hiku, I never really listened to my managers when they prattled on about this system).
But basically, as far as the lazy man is concerned, it boils down to this: as long as you don't get coached from anything else, you can be late or leave early twice and call in four times without much worry about being fired (depending on your management- they can fire you on your d-day if they choose).

Which is what happened to me... I haven't been absense that much but I've recieved previous coaching from customer issues mostly.
Actually most levels of coching drop off after six months... but anything above the written last for one year.
The main issue with this policy system they use is it is very much static... it makes the managers seem to have no control over it really. Basically if you are late or absent even when the reasons are justified it usually doesn't make any different. Once you reach that point level even the store manager can void or consider futher option.
Even when your sick, their view on what's allow is strange as well. A doctor's note isn't good enough I've liternally been told it's not enough. The doctor has to state that you got a Rx or you have to have a return visit to the doctor before it's even considered valid and excuse the absense. I've never heard of a place where a regular Doctor's note doesn't make it excuse absense.

A doctor's note wasn't an excused absence for me either. I've brought them paperwork from the hospital but I still got written up lol.
The only time I wasn't when I had to call in sick or whatever was when I collapsed AT work because my blood sugar plummeted. They had to call an ambulance and everyone was all "OMG I heard they had to call an ambulance for you!!!" for weeks after. Very amusing at the very least.
I guess when Steve, a diabetic manager at the store, told them that if I lose consciousness like that, my blood sugar could be so low that I could go into a coma and die, they kinda decided not to hold it against me. >_>;
